Home Decor
This site is devoted to interior design and home decorating ideas and advice for your home with the budget conscious do it yourself renovator in mind.
A natural complement to a room's wall color, lighting can lend an entirely new dimension to a room. Just think of the effect the right lighting can have on a film or TV show. It might be hard to completely restructure your home's lighting structure, especially if you live in a rental, but there are other ways to enhance the lighting in your rooms without having to add recessed lighting (pot lights) or track lighting — both of which are great ideas, but require complete electrical rewiring.
This is a book I wrote back in 2000 to help you learn how a designer processes your home or room to create a customized interior decorating plan just for you! You must know where you are heading (in relation to your interior decorating projects), you need to know what you will need to purchase, you need to know what you are looking for, you need to know how much money you have to spend, the list goes on and on. The Decorating Bible offers a step by step interior decorating plan to help you decorate your rooms in your way so you know exactly what you need when you go shopping. There are no questions left unanswered and it can be used again and again for all of your interior decorating projects.
Average ceilings are about 8 feet high. Tall ceilings range from 10 to 12 feet or more. Low ceilings are anything under 8 feet. Use corrective decorating techniques by using the right color, texture, or pattern to make the most of space. Be sure to add walk-around and breathing space between pieces of furniture to avoid clutter. Between chairs and sofas in seating groups, allow about 2 to 5 feet. Add up to a foot around your bed for bed-dressing and sheet changing. Leave 4 to 5 feet of clear walking space for traffic flow through rooms.
