Degree In Interior Design
The interior design program is a four‐year, professional degree program that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design Degree. Our curriculum provides an educational foundation that prepares students to enter the interior design profession and positions the student to seek professional status through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam as well as state‐specific licensure.
Our graduates are also prepared to attend graduate schools of their choice in a variety of disciplines or specializations including, but not limited to, interior design, lighting design, historic preservation and architecture. Recent graduates have earned graduate degrees at the University of Texas, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Kansas and the University of Oxford (UK). Distinctive Characteristics of the Interior Design Program
The undergraduate major in interior design is a four-year professional program accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. The program develops students' creativity in the design and planning of interior spaces by emphasizing the process and communication of design. Students learn to integrate the art of design with the social sciences concerning the interaction of people and their environment, the history of design, and the physical sciences relating to the effects of materials on the physical health and comfort of inhabitants. Insight into professional practice is enhanced through internship experiences.
You can prepare for Interior Design college while you’re still in high school. Take as many art, design and computer application courses as you can, especially any in computer-aided drafting. AP Art History can look favorable on your college application, too. Look for an internship or part time job at a local interior design firm or furniture store. Reading interior design magazine and watching home makeover shows can give you a background of styles and trends in the industry.
