The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) has continually accredited Marymount’s undergraduate Interior Design program since 1985. CIDA is the only accrediting agency for interior design. While graduation from a CIDA-accredited program is not now required for practice, it does ensure that graduates possess the knowledge and skills needed to enter the profession. Most design firms and members of the profession recognize the importance and quality of a degree from an accredited program and seek to hire its graduates.
The University of Nebraska – Lincoln ranked at the top of our list as the best online master’s degree in interior design for student engagement. Number 46 on U.S. News & World Report ‘s list of the top public schools in the country, UNL is dedicated to providing well-rounded degree programs that prepare students for careers in their field. Individuals enrolled in the online program will be taught by the same faculty members as their on-campus counterparts. In addition, the highly interactive virtual classroom provides students the opportunity to collaborate with their peers via chat, discussion boards, email, or even video chat.
After students have gotten an education, many go on to complete one- to three-year internship programs to prepare for the licensure exam required by 23 states. In states with these licensure requirements, students must have completed at least two years of college education in interior design before taking the exam. Once the license has been earned, continuing education is often necessary to keep it. Many distance learning schools offer online interior design programs, which allow students to earn the credentials they need at their convenience.
